Genetic Test
FASLG (Fas Ligand) is a gene encoding the FAS protein, which induces cell apoptosis by binding to receptors on the cell surface. This genetic test targets one specific gene variant associated with autoimmune lymphoproliferative syndrome (ALPS).
Disease Description
Autoimmune lymphoproliferative syndrome (ALPS) is a genetic autoimmune disorder in which lymphocytes mistakenly attack the body’s own cells, causing hemolytic anemia and thrombocytopenia. Mutations in the FASLG gene disrupt normal apoptotic cell death processes, resulting in an accumulation of autoreactive lymphocytes. Although kittens appear normal at birth, clinical signs typically manifest between 6 and 12 weeks of age.
