Genetic Test
MYBPC3 (Myosin binding protein C, cardiac) is a gene known to be closely associated with cardiac muscle function in mammals, including cats, humans, and mice. This genetic test targets up to five gene variants related to congenital hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, including MYBPC3, MYH7 (Myosin Heavy Chain 7), and ALMS1 (Alstrom Syndrome Protein 1). Detailed information regarding the specific genes tested is available in the comprehensive test report.
Disease Description
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is the most common cardiac disease observed in cats. It is characterized by abnormal thickening of the muscular walls of the heart compared to normal. This thickening results in a reduction of the internal heart chambers, causing abnormal cardiac muscle movements. Consequently, overall cardiac efficiency is significantly decreased, which may also lead to functional impairments in other organs.
