Osteochondromatosis

Genetic Test

The EXT1 gene encodes an enzyme that spans the membrane of the endoplasmic reticulum, an organelle within cells. It is particularly involved in the synthesis of heparan sulfate.

Disease Description

Osteochondromatosis accounts for about 20% of primary bone tumors in cats. Osteochondromatosis is a disease in which cartilage is converted to bone, resulting in benign tumors on the surface of bones. Although it is often associated with viral infection, it can rarely occur due to genetic mutations.
