Cystinuria, type I

Genetic Test

The SLC3A1 gene produces a protein involved in amino acid transport in the renal tubules.

Disease Description

This genetic disorder affects the renal tubules and often leads to the formation of cystine stones in the urinary tract. Mutations in the gene responsible for cystine reabsorption in the kidney result in excessive excretion of cystine, causing stone formation.
