Genetic Test
The RASGRP2 (RAS Guanyl Releasing Protein 2) gene encodes a protein that activates GTPase enzymes such as RAS and is involved in platelet aggregation, as well as adhesion functions of T-lymphocytes and neutrophils.
This genetic test targets a specific mutation associated with platelet disorders.
Disease Description
Platelet disorder, also known as thrombocytopathy or thrombocytopenia, refers to abnormalities in platelet function or number.
Platelets are circulating cell fragments essential for stopping bleeding by forming clots.
In dogs affected by platelet disorder, platelets fail to respond properly to vascular injury signals.
As a result, bleeding sites cannot be effectively sealed or coagulated, leading to excessive hemorrhage that can cause shock.
