Genetic Test
The ADAMTS10 (ADAM Metallopeptidase with Thrombospondin Type 1 Motif 10) gene encodes a secreted enzyme involved in the formation of connective tissue and plays a role in coagulation, inflammation, angiogenesis, and cell migration.
This test targets a specific genetic variant associated with primary open-angle glaucoma.
Disease Description
Primary open-angle glaucoma is a condition in which excessive production of aqueous humor leads to increased intraocular pressure (IOP).
Normally, intraocular pressure is regulated by the balance between the production and drainage of this fluid within the eye. However, when too much fluid is produced or insufficiently drained, pressure builds up, potentially causing damage to the retina and optic nerve. If left untreated, this condition can progress to irreversible vision loss, making early diagnosis and prompt treatment critically important.
