Genetic Test
The DNM1 (Dynamin 1) gene encodes a protein involved in cytoskeletal dynamics, particularly through interactions with actin and other cytoskeletal proteins.
This protein plays a critical role in intracellular trafficking and synaptic vesicle recycling, which are essential for normal neuromuscular function.
This genetic test screens for one specific mutation in the DNM1 gene associated with Exercise-Induced Collapse (EIC).
Disease Description
Exercise-Induced Collapse (EIC) is a neuromuscular disorder characterized by a sudden inability to use the hind limbs during or after intense physical activity.
While the severity of symptoms can vary depending on the dog's age and overall health, most affected dogs experience temporary hind limb weakness or collapse typically lasting 10 to 20 minutes.
In some cases, affected dogs may also show signs of hyperventilation, dizziness, or disorientation.
